THE sun is shining for a Malvern-based solar panel firm as the number of property owners looking to generate green energy increases. Family-owned renewable energy specialists Energy Solutions Malvern has seen soaring success with the firm’s father and son partnership doubling turnover and adding to their growing team. Now it has opened Worcestershire's first renewable energy showroom at its headquarters in The Clifton Centre, Spring Lane South.

Initially launched after a £50,000 investment as Solar Solutions, the company has changed its name to more accurately reflect its green energy market. It is the brainchild of local businessman David McCann, a former civil servant, who set up the firm after spotting a gap in the UK’s renewable energy market and soon brought son Rowan on board. Operating as a social enterprise, it ploughs 20 per cent of profits back into community projects.

Mr McCann said: "I believe our success is underpinned by our people and unique service. We don't just install solar panels. We advise customers on the best, most cost-effective solution and how renewable energy can benefit them in the long-term. That expertise has seen us become a trusted commercial installer and for domestic homes where demand for green energy is booming. When I set up Solar Solutions the aim was to be different. Of course we wanted to be commercially successful but too many businesses discount the environment and how they can give something back. Therefore we made a commitment from day one that we'd give a percentage of our profits back through community projects. I am proud we’ve met that pledge through a variety of schemes including charitable donations and tree planting, including working with Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester.

"Both private and commercial property owners are now extremely interested in renewable energy and the gains to be made from the government’s feed-in-tariff scheme. These financial and environmental savings have made the technology a truly viable option and far easier to access."

Rowan McCann, who is the company's business and sales manager, added: "Since we installed our first solar panel back in October 2010 we have seen a tremendous growth during a difficult recession. People recognise how worthwhile it is to potentially set their energy bills for the next 20 years and save money with the help of solar products which carry a 30-year warranty. That’s a strong message. Our focus on our customers, coupled with the team’s renewable energy expertise, means we have another exciting 12 months ahead of us.”

Solar Solutions is an approved contractor for the Festival Housing Association and are members of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. For every solar panel it installs, five trees are planted within Worcestershire to help offset carbon levels.
