A COURAGEOUS girl who has battled through 64 major operations has inspired a music festival to raise money for a Worcester children's hospice.

Georgia Bristow of Worcester who is called 'G' and nicknamed 'titanium' because of her toughness has inspired a music festival called 'G-Fest' to boost funds for Acorn's which provides a lifeline to her and her family.

The 12-year-old of Carrock Fell, off Borrowdale Drive, Warndon, who has suffered with meningitis, hydrocephalus and severe epilepsy and had 64 major operations is the inspiration for the festival at the Goodrest Tavern in Barker Street, Worcester, on May 31. The fun begins at 2pm and runs until midnight in support of Acorn's Hospice, based in the city's Bath Road which provides support to children battling life-limiting conditions and their families.

Sharon Bristow, Georgia's mum, said: "Georgia is so excited to be raising money for Acorn's. That is her focus, giving something back. I want to let them know I'm really grateful for everything they do. I can't fault them."

She said Acorn's provided continuous support to her family, including her son, Will, aged nine, and formed a "backbone" for her family, allowing them to get a good night's sleep while giving them the peace of mind that their daughter is always well looked after.

The organiser, Mike Skilbeck, a singer, songwriter and family friend, hopes to raise at least £2,000 so Marston's, the brewery and pub retailing business will match it. The landlord of the pub, Bill Salmon, has also been instrumental in organising the day.

Mr Skilbeck said: "My friends Sharon and Simon Bristow have two children , a son called Will, who is a singing star in the making and likes to sing with me at gigs, (however he tends to steal the limelight) and Georgia. The family use Acorns on a regular basis and it is a saviour to them. It provide professional care and they cannot thank them enough."

The day includes bucking broncos, bouncy castles, a tombola, raffle and a barbecue. Representatives from the police and fire service will be present with live entertainment in the form of gyroscope, an 80 piece strong vocal group called Voices Unlimited, who will be performing Sharon Bristow's favourite song, "The Climb". Other performers include Dirty Rumours, Esther Turner, Mike Skilbeck & Will, Barret & O'Neil, The Jazz Singers, Amanda Till and many more.

Local Musician Terry Wall has joined up with Mike Skilbeck to write an original song called "Sunny Day" which will be sold to raise money for Acorns, the lyrics inspired by Georgia.

There may still be an opportunity for more musicians to perform on the day. For more information or to donate raffle prizes or make a donation contact contact Mr Skilbeck on 07999979265 or Bill Salmon at the Goodrest.
