A TEAM from Holy Trinity Church, Malvern Wells, has won the Founder's Award in this year's annual well-dressing festival.

The award is made by Cora Weaver, of Friends of Malvern Springs and Wells, who organised the first well decorating event in 1993.

The Holy Trinity team decorated the Rose Gully spout in Back Lane, underneath the Waitrose car park, in keeping with this year's theme of Peace.

Ms Weaver particularly liked the contrast between the chaos and dismal colours of the war aspect of the design, and the uplifting white and rainbow colours of peace.

Team members Jane Banwell and Catherine Stevenson designed the scene and made the floral displays at home before setting it all up, which took five hours, with Allister Stevenson and Nigel Banwell doing the heavy work.

Mrs Banwell said: "There's no expertise at all. We're complete novices. We just find ways of doing things."

The award is a solid brass plaque depicting St Werstan the Martyr, patron saint of Malvern's springs and wells. The plaque is sponsored by Coca-Cola Enterprises.
