POWICK Community Choir will be performing at Worcester Cathedral's College Hall this Saturday (May 24) with a concert to commemorate World War One.

The event begins at 8pm in the Cathedral venue and organisers are hoping the people of Worcestershire will come out to support them.

Tom Wells, musical director and founder of the choir, said the concert would be an enjoyable night for all.

"The first half of the concert is a commemoration of the outset of the first world war," he said. "We are looking at some of the poignant poetry from the war poets.

"That will be mixed with emotional music, also from the time, including Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance.

"The second half is a mix of more up lifting pieces, a wide variety of music including Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer.

"The choir will be accompanied by a string orchestra. It should be a wonderful evening for everybody."

Tickets cost £10 and can be bought on the door or in advance from the Tourist Information Centre in Worcester's Guildhall.

All money raised will be used towards a new bursary scheme being considered by the choir to assist students studying music at school or at university.

Mr Wells added: "We really hope the people of Worcestershire will come out and support us."
