KEEN gardeners are being urged to head for Powick in Bank Holiday Monday.

The Link Nurseries Nurseries Horticultural Therapy Centre is opening its doors with plenty of plants and other goodies on sale.

The centre gives people with mental illnesses the chance to grow plants as occupational therapy,

And this spring's crop will be up for sale between 10am and 3.30pm.

The goods on offer will include bedding plants, alpines, plants for borders and hanging baskets.

There will also be planters and raised beds to order, and tea, coffee and homemade cakes on sale.

The event has been organised by Friends of Link Nurseries, formed two years years ago by local volunteers and residents.

Its supporters also include retired and working mental health professionals and past and present clients.

Judith Aldridge, the group's secretary, said: "We work to raise funds for much-needed equipment whilst also raising the profile and awareness of the therapeutic work of the nurseries. We take plant stalls to local events and our monthly coffee mornings also bring in new customers."

The next coffee morning is on Friday, May 9, from 10am to noon.
