A FAMILY festival will hope mighty oaks from little acorns grow in support of a worthy cause.

Lakefest takes place at Croft Farm Waterpark, near Tewkesbury, from Friday to Sunday, August 8-10 and organisers Lee Martin, Steve Daff and Martin Newell have planted eight oak trees in an area known as the heart of the festival in conjunction with Acorns Children's Hospice.

The family-friendly event marks its fourth year and the trees will act as a legacy for the future as well as providing support for the charity which provides care and support for life limited children and their families.

Lakefest organiser, Lee Martin said: “When we heard about Acorns and the outstanding services they provide to care for children and support families, we wanted to help the charity in whatever way we could.

"Lakefest is a family friendly festival and has a large range of activities for children so to support a children’s charity is something we are passionate about.

Mr Martin added: "Acorns Children’s Hospices are very special places that have all the home comforts as well as vital facilities needed to care for the children.

"We are so proud to be supporting the charity and planting these oak trees means that they will be here forever, as a legacy to Lakefest and the children that have passed away.”

Mandie Fitzgerald, community fund-raising officer at Acorns, said she was "delighted" the festival's support would be helping to raise money towards the daily £7,500 cost of running each of their three 10-bed hospices.

A time capsule will be planted in the middle of the oak trees on the festival site, which will include memorable items, and the event will run a competition giving people the chance to suggest what could be placed inside it.
