COMMUTERS are facing delays this morning after an overturned lorry has seen the M42 close northbound from junction 4 to junction 5.

The Highways Agency has warned of "long delays" after the incident.

A spokesman said: "Recovery of the HGV is underway and a lighting column on the M42 J5 northbound exit slip road, damaged in the incident, is being removed.

"The Highways Agency will re-open the M42 to road users as soon as it is safe to do so.

"In the meantime road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or to seek alternative routes."

A signed diversion is in operation, he said, with all traffic being advised to leave the M42 at J4 and follow the 'black diamond' diversion symbol via the A34 Stratford Road towards Birmingham, the B4025 towards Solihull and the A41 southbound to re-join the M42 at J5.

UPDATE: Meanwhile, the A38 Droitwich Road in Worcester was also closed this morning after a crash.

The road was closed in both directions due to an incident near the B4482 Bilford Road / Coombs Road (Perdiswell Island).

It has now re-opened.
