AN INTREPID team helping stroke victims in Worcestershire are scaling the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales next month in the name of charity.

The ten stroke health workers from Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust will be strapping on their climbing boots to raise money for the Stroke Association.

The challenge will begin early on Saturday, May 24 when the group will take on Ben Nevis, before driving to the Lake District to scale Scafell Pike at 4.30am, ending their quest at Snowdon in Wales.

Nursing sister from the trust’s community stroke service and team member Sarah Hudson said: “We have all put a lot of effort and commitment getting ready for our challenge.

“Our families and friends are backing us and we now hope our communities will help us reach our target goal of £3,000.”

Every year about 11,600 people in the West Midlands suffer a stroke and more than 100,000 live with the after-effects.

Occupational therapist Chrissy Walker is also in the team and said: “We know the devastating impact that stroke can have on survivors and their families.

“The Stroke Association family support workers are an integral part of our community stroke service and inpatient stroke rehabilitation.

“The charity provides this much needed and appreciated vital community service and that’s why we want to do this.”

Regional fundraising manager at the Stroke Association Claire Benfield said she was delighted the team were taking on the challenge for the charity.

“All the money raised will help to ensure we can continue our work supporting stroke survivors and their loved ones,” she said. “We look forward to seeing photographs of team in action.”
