A NEW guided walk highlights the life and work of one of Malvern's theatrical pioneers.
The Barry Jackson Audio Walk is named after Sir Barry Jackson who established the world-famous Malvern Drama Festival which he funded and directed between 1929 and 1937.
He also founded the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 1913, and it was the Rep which came up with the idea for the walk.
The theatre approached Malvern Hills District Council, and Peter Smith, artistic director of the Autumn in Malvern Festival, advised the Rep and the audio walk's producers on locations and script content.
Players featuring the audio trail can be borrowed from Malvern TIC on Church Street. Alternatively, smartphone users can scan QR codes at the Elgar statue on Belle Vue island, the bandstand in Priory Park and a noticeboard beside Malvern Theatres.
Cllr Phil Grove of MHDC said: “We’re proud to be paying tribute to Sir Barry Jackson who played a large part in the cultural heritage of Malvern. We hope that this walk will provide another way that visitors and residents alike to enjoy the town.”
