MALVERN's yarn bombing group is looking to volunteers to join its latest venture to bring a splash of colour to the town centre.

Yarnbomb Great Malvern burst on the scene before Christmas when it festooned Belle Vue Island with knitted and

crocheted snowflakes.

The group struck again with knitted hearts for Valentine's Day, and now they are planning the Great Malvern Flower Festival for this spring.

Organiser Jo Davies-Mourby said: "We want to get as many people involved as possible.

"We'll be creating a spring queen and garlands of flowers which will be placed on Belle Vue Island in keeping with the theme for the festival, Once Upon a Time, so we need as many knitted and crocheted flowers as possible to help make the display.

"We would particularly love for groups to get involved, such as Brownies, Guides, WIs and schools. We hope to have simple flower instructions printed put for people to pick up from Iapetus Gallery on Belle Vue Terrace next week, and there will hopefully be some yarn which has been donated very kindly by Yeoman's Yarns if anyone needs any. "

Yard bombing, thought to have originated in Texas, is a type of street art where streets, buildings and trees are decorated with brightly-coloured displays of knitted or crocheted cloth.

Yarnbomb Great Malvern is part of the Pulse Great Malvern initiative to make the town centre more attractive.

Mrs Davies-Mourby says the group plans to decorate the island on Friday, May, 2, and flowers or garlands should be dropped off at Iapetus by the previous Saturday, April 26, or bring garlands along on the day if they want to help set up the display.
