STAFF and residents at a Malvern care home threw a surprise party for a much-loved couple who are retiring after nearly three decades of service.

About 50 people turned out for the celebration at Court House Nursing Home on March 29 for care assistant Pam Davies, aged 75, and gardener Allan Bryant, 69, who are looking forward to enjoying a well-earned rest.

Ms Davies has worked at the care home for nearly 27 years while her partner Mr Bryant has worked there for the last five.

They were given £165 to spend on their next holiday in Benidorm and showered with gifts including a charm bracelet for Ms Davies, a bottle of Ouzo and chocolates.

Bupa even gave Ms Davies an engraved locket in recognition of all her years of hard work and a bunch of flowers with a bottle of champagne for them both.

Residents from across the site attended, along with members of staff past and present, to wish them well in their retirement.

Receptionist Laura Edwards said: "The sun shone down on the afternoon and the party was a huge success. Pam made a very emotional speech to thank everyone and to say they were both very surprised, overwhelmed and grateful for the send off and will miss Court House very much.

"There were tears all round when the presents were given out. There will be a big hole without them."
