Worcester Spring Clean - the more the merrier as volunteers get city looking spruce for Spring

First published in News

A SPRING clean litter picks should get Worcester looking spruce in time for some warmer weather.

People across the city are rolling up their sleeves and taking action to improve their local neighbourhood, as part of the annual Take Pride in Worcester campaign.

Around 30 members of the Worcestershire Filipino International Community will be participating in a litter pick along the Perdiswell canal on Sunday, April 13 between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

“It’s going to be a real family day; there will be lots of children there and we’re doing this partly so that they understand the importance of giving something back to the community,” says Edwin Vargas, chairman of the Worcestershire Filipino International Community.

The following day (Monday, April 14), staff from the St Peter’s branch of Tesco will join members of the local community for a litter pick.

“Residents have noticed that litter seems to have increased in the area over the last few weeks, so we’ve decided to take some positive action to tackle the issue,” says Alex Booth, Worcester City Council’s St Peter’s parish warden.

“We’re really pleased that Tesco are supporting the event, and hope that other Worcester businesses will follow their example and play their part to keep their neighbourhood looking good too.”

All are welcome to join the event. Those who wish to take part should come along at 10am on Monday (April 14) at the municipal games area in St. Peters (parking available at the Baptist Church).

Worcester City Council will be providing equipment to support both events.
