Courage of blind man who fought back against thug with knife in Barnards Green, Malvern

Malvern Gazette: Blind man assaulted Blind man assaulted

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery in which a man who is registered blind fought back after being threatened with a knife in Malvern.

The offenders were left empty handed after the victim punched and kicked.

It happened at about 7.40pm on Friday, March 28, in Geraldine Road.

Victim Andy Muxlow, aged 44, has no sight in one eye and only minimal sight in the other.

It is believed the offenders may have been watching as he withdrawn some money from a cash machine opposite the Barnards Green Loco shop.

As he walked down Geraldine Road towards the Chase School, he was approached by at least two male offenders, one of whom held a knife to his throat and chest and demanded money.

Mr Muxlow managed to get away after kicking him on the leg and punching him to the face.

He was unable to run because he was afraid of colliding with something. Although the offenders shouted threats after him, they did not attempt to follow him.

Mr Muxlow was not injured but was extremely shaken. He was treated by an ambulance crew after having a panic attack.

Mr Muxlow said he had had poor eyesight all his life, but it had deteriorated over the previous year, leaving him virtually blind.

He said: “This has really knocked my confidence and taken away my independence.

“The response from the police was superb. I couldn’t fault them and I hope someone will come forward with some information.”

One of the offenders was described as white, wearing a dark coloured top with white stripes on the shoulders.

PC Katie Doidge of West Mercia Police said: “Mr Muxlow was left shaken and upset and will no longer go out on his own in the dark.”

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact PC Doidge on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident 630-S-280314.

is wondering what malvern is coming to, what was once a quiet town where everyone knew everyone and we all spoke, we don't really no our neighbour's anymore and its not really that safe to be out on your own now, what with attempted robberies on people in the street, purses being taken from handbags in shopping centres attacks on innocent people just for fun. have no one got any respect for anyone these days.
