THERE won't be any more puddles on the floor at Upton's scout hut, now that a brand-new roof has been installed.

The town's scout group worked for six long years to raise the £10,000 needed to fund the work.

Val Holland of the group said: "We approached many local councillors to assist with our funding and the group us very pleased to acknowledge the generous support from Roger Sutton, Lucy Hodgson and the late Bob Bullock.

"We also received assistance from the Baden Powell Guild. Special thanks must go to a very generous local donor, Mrs Eleanor Grigson.

"Thanks to a dedicated team of adults, the Cub pack is so successful that we have had to start a waiting list and have opened a new Beaver Colony for boys and girls aged six to eight."

The hut has also new lighting provided by Kevin Tyrell, father of one of the cubs, and the next task is to upgrade the wiring and install a new cooker.
