Glamour of the West End comes to Worcestershire

A STORY made famous on the big screen by Liza Minelli is set to keep audiences enthralled at a Droitwich theatre next month.

Stepping Out, a comedy based around a weekly tap-dance class, is being performed at the Norbury Theatre from Thursday to Saturday, March 6 to 8 and then again from Thursday to Saturday, March 13 to 15.

The Norbury Players will bring Richard Harris’ story to the stage and it was his text which formed the basis for the 1990s movie starring Minelli.

It charts a group of women and one man who meet in a dingy North London church hall struggling to conquer their inhibitions while learning to tap dance.

The eccentric group gradually move from stumbling acquaintance with each other to forge a team worthy of performing to an outside audience.

Director Tony Catchpowle said: “I am so lucky to have so much talent in such a small area and I have truly been blessed to have such a great cast, who all bring something different to the show and such a wonderful theatre in which to perform.

"We have our own West End right on our doorstep.”

The shows at the Friar Street venue start at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 (concessions £9).
