NURSERY children have dressed up in red to help raise money for an animal rescue shelter.

Youngsters from the Madresfield Early Years Centre, near Worcester, raised £120 for the Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter at nearby Deblins Green.

The money was raised as part of a special assembly which also marked the start of Chinese New Year, the year of the horse.

Darren Rooker, a representative from the shelter, joined the children and staff at the assembly.

Staff explained the story of the animals and Chinese New Year, the children sang songs and paraded with one of the centre’s Shetland ponies, called Bubbles, who was also dressed in red.

Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter gives shelter, medical treatment and care to stray and abandoned cats and dogs and helps to rehome them.
