NEW York in the roaring twenties has come to a Worcester school in the shape of hit musical Bugsy Malone

Pupils from Bishop Perowne CE College in Worcester performed the show to more than 500 primary school pupils at three matinees as well as parents and fellow students.

The students belted out familiar songs including So You Wanna Be a Boxer and Fat Sam’s Grand Slam during the four evenings.

The show was written by Alan Parker with music and lyrics by Paul Williams and tells of the rivalry between two street gangs during the USA’s Prohibition era in the 1920s.

The hard-working cast was made up of 60 students across all year groups with many more playing vital backstage and technical roles.

Director Suzie Davis said: “It was an exciting production to work on and one which brought out the energetic and talented best in our young people.

“Performing to packed houses every evening is an experience they will carry with them for many years to come.”
