THE yellow warning for rain has been extended into the weekend with more rain set to fall in the coming days.

The Met Office is predicting further spells of heavy and persistent rain from this afternoon into tomorrow morning and again from late tomorrow evening until early on Saturday.

This will be followed by frequent heavy showers accompanied by gales.

A yellow warning means severe weather is possible and people should plan ahead for possible travel delays and disruption due to flooding, with the situation likely to change or worsen.

Rainfall of 15 to 25mm is expected widely and the Met Office's chief forecaster said: "A further Atlantic frontal system will bring a band of rain quickly eastwards during Friday night and early Saturday, with the heaviest rain again likely to be across parts of southern England and south Wales, followed in turn by heavy showers.

"Winds will also be a feature with severe gales possible around coasts in the southwest of England."
