THE lights are dimming but not quite out at an historic city sports venue.

Bulldozers have continued their demolition of Worcester City's former St George's Lane ground.

The main stand was being taken down yesterday (Tuesday) although strong winds which are forecast for the next couple of days are likely to mean the floodlights won't be taken down until next week.

"It's nearly the end now, although the floodlights won't be taken down just yet because of the high winds which have been forecast," said Colin Layland, Worcester City's vice-chairman.

"Everything has gone well with the demolition although I haven't visited the ground since June 13, which was our last official day there."

The stadium has been handed over to developers Careys New Homes.

Worcester City, currently playing at Kidderminster Harriers' Aggborough ground, played at St George's Lane since 1905.

The club is still in talks with Worcester City Council over a possible move to the Perdiswell area of Worcester.
