THE organisation in charge of running the three A&E hospitals in Worcestershire has thrown is support behind plans to restructure healthcare in the county.
Last week a long-awaited independent report was presented recommending all but the most serious of cases should continue to be treated at all three hospitals – Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital and Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital – with the most urgent cases going to Worcester, where a new midwifery unit will also be created.
At a meeting of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust board on Wednesday, January 29, members agreed to approve the plans to go forward to public consultation, which is expected to take place in the summer.
Director of strategic development Christine Fearns said: “There’s clearly been a considerable amount of work done”.
