A DEVELOPER which wants to build 30 houses at Drake Street, Welland, will be explaining its plans at a public meeting next week.

The meeting, on Monday, February 3, comes just days after a planning inspector approved another application for up to 50 houses in Drake Street on appeal.

It has been arranged by Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council , which has invited Marcus Little of Worcester-based Pridays Mill Developments, to explain the company's plans for the site between the Old Post Office and Church Farm.

The meeting is at the Welland Village Hall, Marlbank Road, starting at 7pm.

Meanwhile Kler Developments has won an appeal allowing them to build up to 50 houses on land at Lawn Farm, Drake Street.

The application was made in June 2012, and 12 months later, the applicant appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, on the grounds that Malvern Hills District Council had not made a decision inside the statutory time limit.

In December last year, an appeal hearing was held in front of planning inspector, Roger Pritchard, who has now ruled in favour of Kler.

Alan Madsen of Welland Residents Action Group said: "With these plans and others, such as the Spitalfields site at Marlbank Road, we're looking at an increase of 25 per cent in the housing stock at Welland.

"People are not opposed to more houses, but the village is in the process of formulating a neighbourhood plan, and we'd like to see a more coherent, structured approach, rather than all these ad hoc applications."
