BURGLARS tried to break into a house in Rushwick last week using a makeshift rod to try and steal a set of keys left on a table near a door.
The unknown persons entered the unlocked garage next to a detached bungalow some time in the evening on Friday, January 10 and, ignoring valuable items stored there, used materials they found to make the long rod, which they pushed through a cat flap into the utility room at the rear of the house in an attempt to reach keys left on a worktop.
Although they were unsuccessful, police have warned residents to be careful to keep anything which could be used to break into their homes locked away.
