TWO men forced their way into an elderly couple's home to steal just £20 worth of foreign currency.

Just before 9pm on Tuesday, January 17, the elderly man answered the door to his house in Broad Street, in Sidemoor, Bromsgrove, to someone claiming their was a fire at the bottom of the garden.

The man then barged through the door with another and knocked the phone from the elderly woman's hand as she tried to call the police.

One stayed with the couple while the other searched the house and stole 200 Hong Kong dollars, which is about £20, before leaving the property on foot.

The offenders were both white, in their late 20s to early 30s, with hoods up and scarves across their faces.

Detective Constable Jake Wright of West Mercia Police said: “The victims are in their 80s and the man in particular is extremely vulnerable. They were pushed to the floor and although they were not hurt, it was a very frightening incident for them.”

“We would like to hear from any local business who are approached by anyone attempting to use or convert Hong Kong dollars.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
