Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin scales the heights at outdoor education centre

MP Harriett Baldwin had a go on a climbing wall when she paid a visit to the outdoor education centre in West Malvern.
The centre, now called Malvern Outdoor Elements, was last year handed over to a community interest company founded by staff and supporters by Worcestershire County Council, which was keen to save money.
During her visit, Mrs Baldwin met staff and was given a briefing on the centre’s activities by director Nick Hands, before trying out the climbing wall.
She said: “I was pleased to be able meet the staff who have taken on the challenge of taking over the centre.
“I am told the centre is well on course to return to profitability and I want to pay tribute to Nick and his team who are working so hard.
“Every county student will visit the centre during their time at school so I am pleased to support their plans to improve facilities and bring it up to scratch for the 21st century.”
The handover followed years of uncertainty about the centre’s future as the county council sought to make budget cuts.
The centre offers a wide range of activities such as high ropes and zip wires, abseiling, climbing, grass sledging and much more to schools and other users.
