A POET and teacher attended a reception at Buckingham Palace celebrating contemporary British poetry.

Michael Woods, assistant head teacher and director of sixth form at the Chase Technology College, was invited as a school representative and a published poet.

Mr Woods was presented to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, both taking a particular interest in The Chase School.

“I was most impressed with what a nice person the Queen is,” he said.

“It was a tremendous honour to have been invited to Buckingham Palace as a representative of The Chase. I am delighted that the excellence of the school’s work in connection with poetry has been recognised.”

He has worked for many years promoting poetry with young people alongside Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, a regular visitor to The Chase.
