A DANCE academy is going from strength to strength on the national stage.

Two dance groups from Dance in Motion Academy, Malvern, enjoyed a successful day at the Southern Classic Cheerleading and Dance Competition in Eastbourne, Sussex.

The youth Cheerbeez dance squad claimed second place after strutting their stuff to a remix of pop superstar Beyoncé in their first ever competition.

Then the senior Motionesque Jazz Team dance squad stamped their authority on the competition by claiming first place.

The dance troupe are vastly experienced, with the majority of the members performing with the academy’s cheerleaders at Worcester Warriors’ home matches.

Judges commented on their strong jazz routine, the technical elements shown throughout and the well-executed lifts.

Gemma Hinton, principal and coach of Dance in Motion, said: “The atmosphere was electric and the girls worked so hard in the lead-up to the competition.

They looked so professional on the competition stage. I could not be prouder.

“Gaining first place demonstrates Motionesque are going from strength to strength and taking on board all of the British Cheerleading Association’s feedback and advice.

“The youth team, Cheerbeez, look like they are going to be following the senior team’s footsteps with a brilliant result at their first competition.

“These results have given the students a thirst for competing and we look forward to the 2014 season.”
