IF you’re feeling a little flat after Christmas, why not sign up for Malvern Rotary Club’s annual pancake race?

The ever popular mix of fun and fund-raising is returning for a sixth year on Tuesday, February 18 and people are being urged to join in and have a flipping good time.

The event is being staged at Priory Park, in Great Malvern, and as always colourful costumes are actively encouraged.

There will be prizes for the team with the best fancy dress, the team that raises the most sponsorship and the winning teams in both the ‘elite’ (average age under 50) and ‘veteran’ (over-50) categories.

The race is being sponsored by Malvern’s Waitrose supermarket and entry costs £20 for a team of four.

Teams are also asked to raise sponsorship, with half of what they collect going to Rotary charities and the remainder to a cause of their own choosing.

One exception to this is teams running on behalf of charities, who will be able to retain 100 per cent of their sponsorship.

Last year’s pancake race raised a grand total of £2,200 and Malvern Rotary spokesman Sandy Gibson is urging as many people as possible to sign up and help repeat that success.

“You can be any age or athletic ability and businesses, clubs, associations and groups of friends are all invited to put together a team,” he said.

The pancake race will be taking place from 12.30pm until 2pm. For more details or to enter a team, call 01684 575879 or pick up an entry form from Malvern Library, in Graham Road, Malvern Splash, in Priory Road, or the Tourist Information Centre, in Church Street.
