POLICE attending reports of a crash found a man staggering near the vehicle, which was in a ditch, a court heard.
Kim Turner, aged 56, of The Gables, Newland, Malvern, was driving a Mazda MX5 along Madresfield Road, Malvern, when the crash happened, Worcester Magistrates Court heard.
Owen Beale, prosecuting, said police officers on patrol were stopped by a member of the public about a car being in a ditch on Sunday, December 1.
“He was clearly very affected by the alcohol and was found staggering by the car,”
said Mr Beale. “He had gone to a pub and only intended to have one drink, but ended up drinking four or five more pints of alcohol.”
Turner, who represented himself, admitted drink driving.
The court heard when Turner was breathalysed, his reading was 86 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.
Turner was fined £723 and disqualified from driving for 20 months.
