Man thrown out of his flat after drunken tirade

Malvern Gazette: Man thrown out of his flat after drunken tirade Man thrown out of his flat after drunken tirade

A DRUNKEN man who was shouting at his neighbours and kicking rubbish around has lost his flat, a court was told.

Steven Low was upset when he was told by Festival Housing, who owns his flat, that there had been some complaints made against him by his neighbours.

The 48-year-old thought his neighbours were ganging up on him and were lying about his behaviour to the housing association in an attempt to get him kicked out.

Peter Love, prosecuting said before police received a call from neighbour David Pritchard in Pickersleigh Road at 11.45pm on Tuesday, November 19, there had been some sort of incident between them.

When police arrived Low was mumbling and unsteady on his feet outside the building and both he and Mr Pritchard, who was in a first-floor window, was shouting at each other.

Mr Love said: “Police noticed there was rubbish outside the flats and he admitted he had kicked the bin bags over. “He kept shouting at the neighbours saying they were liars and he could tell police lies about them.” Police told Low to go inside and go to bed, which he did. Low went back outside about an hour later to clean up to mess he had made but because of the noise he was making, which included swearing, police were called again and he was arrested. Low pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates Court to using threatening words and behaviour towards his neighbours.

In mitigation, Sam Lamsdale said Low had turned to drink when he heard that he might lose his flat.

There had been a previous anti-social behaviour injunction secured against Low, who now lives in Elgar Avenue with an in-law.

His actions breached the order resulting in him losing his tenancy with Festival Housing.

Magistrates' chair Nicola Phillips gave Low a conditional discharge for six months and also imposed court costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
