A BELOVED terrier was killed after being attacked by another dog in the same week that a 66-year-old man walking his dog was butted in the face.

Julie Pearce says her family’s 11-year-old Jack Russell Scampy was on his lead when a lurcher ran to him, bit him and shook him “violently”.

She said her husband, Andrew, who was walking Scampy and their other dog, Alfie, a springer spaniel, punched the lurcher to get it off their pet but it did not let go and Mr Pearce has suffered flashbacks since.

Earlier this week, a 66-year-old man walking his poodle puppy was butted by a fellow dog walker who became angry when their dogs met.

Mrs Pearce, aged 49, of Upper Howsell Road, Malvern, said: “Scampy was on a lead and he’s getting old now so definitely wouldn’t cause any trouble. It was an unprovoked attack from a large lurcher dog.

“My husband tried punching the lurcher to make him let go of Scampy but it kept violently shaking him. It was just a savage attack on an innocent dog.

“It was devastating. None of us have slept since and my husband keeps having flashbacks.”

Mrs Pearce said the woman, did try to intervene during the attack by her dog, which was not on a lead, on Wednesday, December 11, but they have not seen her since.

“We want her to take responsibility for her dog, it should be on a lead and muzzled. We have tried to ask around to find out who she was but have had no luck so far,” said Mrs Pearce.

After the attack on the public fields near Bronsil Drive, Malvern, Scampy was immediately taken to the vets.

He was kept overnight but allowed home the next day where he passed away at 8.15pm.

“The shock and trauma of it was just too much for him in the end, it’s broken our hearts,”said Mrs Pearce.

“I do not want people to go through the same thing so I want to warn people that vicious dogs are out there.”

PCO David Wise, of Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Teams, said it was a civil matter but will be keeping an eye out for the woman and the lurcher on patrols.

Meanwhile, a 66-year-old man was left with a bloody nose and three chipped teeth, after an altercation with a man walking a Staffordshire bull terrier in Clover Way, Malvern, on Wednesday, December 11, after the pensioner let his poodle off its lead.

The dog made its way over to the Staffordshire bull terrier, which was being walked on a long lead by another man.

The Staffy owner became aggressive and abusive, threatening to let his dog tear the poodle to bits. He was butted in the face in what police called an “unnecessary act of aggression”.

After the confrontation, the attacker ran off in the direction of the Bluebell Pub, in nearby Guarlford Road, police said.

The young man is described as white, aged between 20 and 22 years old, about 5ft 10ins tall and of stocky build with blonde hair.

He was wearing a dark blue hoody and blue jeans.
