MYSTERY surrounds the future of the former Malvern Youth Hostel after it was revealed the building had been sold.
The Youth Hostel Association put the 58-bedroom building on the market earlier this year because it was not prepared to spend the £450,000 needed for repairs.
The Gazette learnt this week that the building on Peachfield Road has now been sold, but neither the Youth Hostel Association nor Humberts estate agent will say who the new owner is.
Charlotte Judson, regional manager for the YHA, said the association had been told not to make the details of the new owner public just yet.
She added: "It is something we have been asked to keep quiet about and we are respecting those wishes."
Richard Tomlinson, of Humberts, said client confidentiality prevented him from giving any details.
He said that he would try to contact the new owners to see if they would talk to the Gazette. There was no further news as the time of going to press.
A spokeswoman for Malvern Hills District Council said she had not received any planning applications for the site.
