FESTIVAL with a reputation for providing an annual slice of rural eccentricity has missed out on one award but scooped another.

Nozstock: The Hidden Valley, which is run by the Nosworthy family at Rowden Paddocks in Bromyard, was shortlisted in the best dance event category at the prestigious UK Festival Awards.

But it lost out to Creamfields during the ceremony, held at London’s Roundhouse on Monday.

However, the event, which celebrated its 15th year in July, picked up an Improving Award at the A Greener Festival Awards.

That award is given to festivals at the beginning of the green journey that can exhibit a significant engagement with the process of reducing the event’s environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions.

It is an internationally recognised independent scheme for environmentally aware festivals.

Events which apply for it must prove it has meaningful and effective environmental policies and practices to deal with traffic and transport, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, recycling, water conservation, noise pollution, ethical policies, environmental protection and sustainable office policies.

Next year’s festival inches deeper into the summer by running from Friday to Sunday, August 1 to 3, with the theme announced as “Jurassic Farm”.

Revellers will be encouraged to get into the fancy dress spirit by taking a leaf out of the Flintstones’ book or following in the footsteps of the dinosaurs.

Set around a ramshackle farm house, organisers are promising the festival site will look decidedly neanderthal to welcome music fans.
