THE announcement that the Government is to make £250 million available to help bring superfast broadband to rural communities had been welcomed by Malvern MP Harriett Baldwin.

But BT customers in Malvern might have to wait a bit longer for their new service to be turned on.

Mrs Baldwin said she had been told by Culture Secretary Maria Miller that the funds would be made available across the country to connect as many people as possible to the service.

“It is essential that all my constituents get access to superfast broadband as quickly as possible,” she said.

The announcement follows a campaign by your Malvern Gazette to secure superfast broadband for the town, which has led to 48 out of 55 cabinets in the town offering a superfast service. But work to connect a new cabinet in West Malvern hit a snag this week after engineers encountered problems.

Mrs Baldwin said she had been assured the work would be completed as soon as possible.
