Police searching for a missing Worcestershire man this evening recovered a body from the river Avon at Evesham.

The body was in a submerged car which was located this morning off Boat Lane and pulled from the river at about 6pm.

While formal identification has not yet taken place it is believed to be that of Anthony Taylor, known as Tony, who police had been searching for since he was reported missing early on Thursday, November 21.

The 22-year-old was from Worcester although he recently moved to Charford in Bromsgrove.

Detective Inspector Dean Jones of West Mercia Police said: "The last contact with him was in the Evesham area early on Thursday and since then a thorough search has been under way which has included a team of police divers, Severn Area Rescue Association and other specialist resources.

"Tragically it appears we have found Mr Taylor in his car which was recovered from the river near the ferry crossing off Boat Lane.

"We have been in close contact with his family throughout and they have been updated on this development. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

"We would like to thank everyone who has helped during our enquiries to locate Mr Taylor and the media for publicising our appeals to find him."
