Buster Bear boosts national campaign
11:10am Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
HE MAY be a cute and cuddly bear but Buster carries an important message as he makes a stop in Malvern this week.
Buster is busy travelling around the country to raise awareness of the Children’s Heart Federation’s campaign for pulse oximetry testing – which monitors the oxygenation rate in blood and can reveal hidden heart conditions for all newborn babies – and its Think Heart campaign.
The bear is visiting nappy libraries and has arrived at Malvern Nappy Advisory Service (NAS).
It has been a jam-packed week with visits to Matalan on the retail park, Humpty Dumpty toddler group at Christ Church, Avenue Road, and a visit to 1st Malvern Rainbows.
He has also met new mums during the sling meet at Worcester Woods Countryside Centre and the Baby Latte NCT breastfeeding support group.
Buster has already collected more than 200 signatures for newborns to get the noninvasive tests for blood oxygen levels in hospitals. He has also raised about £80 for the charity.
Charlotte Ledington, from Malvern NAS, said: “He is having a great time in Malvern and raising lots of awareness of pulse oximetry testing.
“When we have spoken to people they don’t know a thing about it but when they hear about the benefits and how little they cost they can’t understand why they are not already in hospitals.”
