Charities' show day will be a knockout
MALVERN Hills Lions are looking for local businesses to support one of the biggest events of the club’s year.
The club stages an annual It’s A Knockout event for people with learning difficulties at the Three Counties Showground.
Clients of social education centres in Malvern, Worcester, Evesham, Tewkesbury and Droitwich compete to win a coveted Lions’ Club shield.
But the success of the event depends on the generosity of local businesses, who are being urged to cover the costs, which amount to some £2,000.
John Jenkins, the event coordinator, said: “It’s a real highlight for the people from the social education centres.
Each centre devises a game, which the others have to play in a series of rounds.
“We have a different theme each year, and this year it is superheroes, Batman, Spider- Man and so on.”
There are also prizes for the best joker and the best poster, which the centres’ clients design. The event is now in its 15th year and gives a much-needed treat to children and young adults who attend one of the six local day centres, including the Social Education Centre in Geraldine Road, Barnards Green.
About 200 people from the centres, plus about 50 carers and supporters are expected to attend.
Volunteers from the Lions design and make a backdrop and scenery for the event, which is being held at the Avon Hall on the Three Counties Showground on Wednesday, November 6.
“It’s really popular and the people from the centres have an absolutely fabulous time, so we’d very much appreciate all the support we can get,” said Mr Jenkins.
Anyone who can help out is urged to contact Mr Jenkins on 01886 832397.
