A NEW development of up to 25 new homes in Upton looks set to go ahead after planning permission was granted this week despite residents' concerns.

At the same meeting members voted to approve the outline application by landowners Chapman, Taylor and Taylor for land off Ryall Road, Holly Green.

Speaking at the meeting, Holly Green resident Dawn Long said she and 43 of her neighbours had objected to the plans.

“The development would have a significantly adverse impact on the amenity for neighbouring homes and the street scene,” she said.

Ripple Parish Council clerk Lorna Gower said the council was also concerned about the impact the development would have on the busy A4104, which would be the main route used by residents at the site.

But planning consultant John Williams, representing the applicant, said district council planning officers had identified seven benefits of the plans going ahead and only one downside.

He said that as the council does not currently have a five-year land supply, the application should be permitted.

Although Coun John Raine proposed the application should be rejected, it was defeated by 13 votes to three, with two abstentions, and members voted for 14 to three, with one abstention, to approve the plans.
