More than 150 classic cars and motorcycles will be up for grabs at auction
ROCK HISTORY: The 2009 Audi RS6 5.0 V10 Twin Turbo Estate formerly owned by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason.
ROCK and royal fans will have something special to bid for as county motor enthusiasts zoom along to an auction this week.
Cars which belonged to legendary collector and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and Princess Anne’s ex-husband Captain Mark Phillips will be going under the hammer at Brightwell’s in Leo-minster on Wednesday.
They are two of the highlights in a packed list of more than 150 classic cars and motorcycles ranging from a 1960 Mini 850 restoration project – estimated at just £1,000 – to a fully race-prepared 1928 Alvis 12/75 FWD estimated to fetch more than £65,000.
A Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG Saloon owned from new in 2000 by Olympic gold medallist Capt Phillips is among the German cars.
Even more powerful is an awesome 2009 Audi RS6 5.0 V10 Twin Turbo Estate owned from new by Nick Mason.
Brightwell’s classic car expert James Dennison said: “At launch, it was the most powerful Audi ever made, it puts a ridiculous 580bhp under its driver’s right foot and is capable of more than 170mph but has plenty of room to carry your drum kit in the back.”
The lucky winning bidder will also receive signed copies of two Nick Mason books, Passion for Speed – about his car collection and obsession with racing – and Inside Out – his personal history of Pink Floyd – plus a signed cut-away print of his fabulous 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO which he has owned since 1977 and is now one of the most valuable cars in the world, worth over £30m. The Audi, though, is going for just £30,000.
The sale begins at noon and all the entries can be viewed at brightwells.com.
