A MAN has been given a 12- month community order after he admitted stealing a number of items from Malvern supermarkets.
Jan Beard, aged 32, of Pickersleigh Grove, Malvern, pleaded guilty to stealing groceries worth £43 from the Tesco Express in Madresfield Road when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday, September 6.
He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to stealing groceries worth £10 from the One Stop Shop in Barnards Green, three cans of baby milk formula and steak from the Coop in Upper Howsell Road, clothing from Matalan and two packets of Carling Zest lager from Tesco Express.
The thefts took place on separate occasions in July and August, the court heard.
David Olivere, defending, said half of the goods had been recovered.
Beard, who was in breach of a 18-month conditional discharge from last July, was ordered to pay compensation for the items that were not recovered.
Magistrates also took into consideration a further theft of three steaks from Tesco between August 9 and 12, which Beard also admitted to.
Chair of the bench, Gill Porter, fined him £85 costs, a £60 victim surcharge and gave him a 12-month community order with 12-months supervision and a drug rehabilitation requirement.
