Charity trip couple in 10,000-mile rally

A MALVERN couple motoring through their round-theworld trip from Malvern to Australia have spent the last five weeks driving the Mongol Rally – a 10,000-mile trek from Europe through Asia to Mongolia.
Mike Ferguson, aged 29, and Jess Heath, who left Malvern at the beginning of July, will now continue their epic charity journey through Cambodia and Thailand to Sydney where they now live.
“We were really grateful and proud of ourselves for getting to the finishing line,” said Jess, who is 25 and used to live on the West Malvern Road after they completed the rally.
“It was a tough slog in parts but we battled through.
“Now we are enjoying some warm showers, and cold beers to get rid of all the dust we have collected.”
Mr and Mrs Ferguson used to live on Summerfield Road, Malvern Link, are embarking on the 16,000-mile adventure in a Renault Clio. They are doing it to raise money for two charities; environmental group Cool Earth and One World Futbol which provides indestructible footballs to children in war-torn countries.
Before leaving Malvern, Mr Ferguson said the things he misses from the town include the Nag’s Head and a cup of tea at the St Ann’s Well cafe.
He said they initially left Malvern a few years ago to “try our luck in Australia”
and liked Sydney so much they decided to stay. Their journey, called Our Long Drive Home, has already seen them drive through 15 countries including Kazakhstan, Russia and Croatia. For further information, visit ourlongdrivehome.
