A last minute change of venue for music festival
9:40am Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
A FUND-RAISER who organises his own music festivals is holding his biggest event yet in aid of two good causes – but has had to change the venue at the last minute.
Andy Mapp originally planned to hold the Mega Mappfest at the Swan, Newland, but was told this week that the pub had decided not to host the event.
After a frantic search for a new venue, he managed to secure the Re-Con music venue in Church Street, Malvern, for the same date – Saturday, September 7, from noon to 1am.
The event will feature some of the acts that galvanised music lovers at the recent Malvern Rocks event. The line-up includes Slack Granny, Ronin, Massive Head Trauma, This Wicked Tongue, Black Russian and Ancient Addicts.
It will feature special guest presenters Andy O’Hare, of BBC Hereford and Worcester, and the Bard of Malvern Jai Hill.
The event will raise money for Acorns and also to buy oxygen meters for the local community respiratory team.
Mr Mapp said: “No money whatsoever is taken from these events for expenses and they are only made possible due to my good friends in Malvern and Worcester.
“A suggested donation of £5 should make it affordable for everyone and under-14s are free.”
Mr Mapp, who lives in Bank Street, North Malvern, started off by holding music events at his own home.
But earlier this year he graduated to the Mini Mappfest at the Re-Con, which raised more than £2,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
A spokesman for the Swan said owner Duncan Ironmonger decided not to host the event out of concern for the noise impact on neighbours.
