Food and Shakespeare top the bill in Malvern this weekend
4:04pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
WITH the bank holiday weekend approaching, Great Malvern is getting set to entertain locals and visitors with a variety of events.
This coming weekend you can tantalise your taste buds at the Malvern Arts and Food Market, enjoy Shakespeare’s As You Like It at Rose Bank Gardens and enjoy some old-fashioned family fun with Punch and Judy shows.
The Malvern market located in the beautiful grounds of the Great Malvern Priory is back by popular demand on Saurday from 9am to 5pm.
Now in its sixth year, this is one of the longest running markets of its kind in the area. Exhibitors include local designers, artists and some of the finest artisan food and drink producers in the region. The unique market is the result of a partnership between Boffy Arts Markets and Malvern Hills District Council and takes place with the kind permission of Great Malvern Priory. Visitors to the market can enjoy tasty local produce, alongside local arts and crafts.
Counr Phil Grove said: “The Malvern Arts and Food Market has always been popular. With the market, Shakespeare and Punch and Judy on, we expect there will be a lively feel to the town centre.
"We hope to see more visitors in town over the long weekend, which we hope local businesses will benefit from. A long weekend is the perfect time to visit the Malverns – enjoy a leisurely stroll through Great Malvern and enjoy all that is on offer at the outdoor market next to the picturesque Great Malvern Priory.“
There will also be some traditional family entertainment with Punch and Judy shows at noon, 1pm and 2pm on Belle Vue Island, Great Malvern.
Saturday’s entertainment is just one of a series of events coming up throughout the year, designed to showcase local talent, promote regional products and broaden the appeal of the area to young people and visitors.
