New stars also have green tint

GLISTENING stars will again light up Malvern this year following the Christmas lights switch-on on Friday, December 1.

Last year, Malvern Town Council replaced its traditional miniature Christmas tree decorations with some illuminated stars for the first time.

Town clerk Richard Chapman said the lights proved a hit with traders and the public, and that 50 more had been made available this year, bringing the total number to 100.

Mr Chapman said another consideration in deciding to use the stars was that they were very environmentally friendly.

The stars use modern lights that give off very low Co2 emissions, and this year timers have been fitted to all lights to save energy during daylight hours.

"The town council is very conscious of reducing Co2 in Malvern, and the measures we are taking with the lights are just another step to reducing it," said Mr Chapman.
