SIXTY years of helping some of the most vulnerable youngsters at home and abroad is being celebrated by Malvern’s branch of Save the Children.
Formed at a meeting held in May 1953, the branch’s main fund-raising activities for a number of years were an annual film and a summer party.
Today the committee runs a Christmas Fair and a summer event, plus many other events throughout the year such as Burns Night suppers, quizzes, special lunches and tennis tournaments.
Sue Johnson of the branch said: “We are well supported by the generous Malvern people. Altogether, the branch sends between £12,000 and £15,000 to headquarters every year. This helps to support thousands of practical projects both in this country and abroad. ”
The branch has 26 members.
The longest-serving committee member is Dorothea Marsh, who has been a supporter for more than 40 years and is now president of the Malvern branch.
Members will be celebrating with a dinner at the Ale House in Colwall in May.
