RESIDENTS who produce a lot of recycling have been reassured it will not be left to pile up once wheelie bins are introduced.

From May, Malvern Hills District Council is switching from its weekly pink sack recycling collections to a fortnightly arrangement using wheelie bins.

The standard plastic bin will hold the equivalent of four sacks worth of recycling – equivalent to two a week.

But there is currently no limit on the number of recycling sacks that can be collected and the council said anyone who produced a lot of recycling could request a larger bin.

But the Gazette heard from one concerned resident who had called up the Worcestershire Hub to request a larger bin and was told that only the standard size was available and that any recycling that did not fit in would not be collected.

When we contacted the council, a spokesman insisted this is not the case, but admitted the larger bins may not be immediately available.

“Any customer who requests a larger bin is entitled to one, providing that we can get our freighter to the property,” she said.

She added that Worcestershire Hub staff had been reminded about this information “to ensure that there is no further confusion”.
