SIXTH-formers endured icy conditions to promote an Amnesty International event at the Chase School, due to take place Friday, March 8.

Jordan Laverick, Bryony Montandon, Will Rowley and Jacob Webb dressed as victims of rendition and detainees in Guantanamo Bay, while other students, including Catherine Flemming, engaged passersby and distributed fliers.

The guest speaker is Guardian journalist Ian Cobain, who comes to Malvern the day after the Press Awards dinner, at which he is shortlisted for News Reporter of the Year.

His new book, Cruel Britannia: A secret history of torture has already won Debut Political Book of the Year.

Next Friday, beginning at 7pm, he will present findings of his research into British use of torture since the Second World War.

The event is organised by the Amnesty International group at the school, along with the Malvern Hills group.

Entry for students and unwaged is free, and for others £5.
