Liz and Tracy place us on the food map
TWO chefs will put the taste of Malvern on the map in the opening episode of ITV’s new show Food Glorious Food tonight.
Liz Hughes, who runs Our Lizzy Cooking, a vegetarian cookery school, and celebration cake maker Tracy Brookes, of Cake Woman, both based in Malvern, took part in the programme when it was filmed at the Malvern Autumn Show at the Three Counties Showground in September last year.
The show, presented by Carol Vorderman and featuring judge Tom Parker Bowles, scours the country for a very special recipe with the winner receiving £20,000 and their dish on the shelves of Marks and Spencer.
Both women were contacted by the show’s researchers.
Mrs Hughes, who has run her cookery classes for the past three years, chose to cook a traditional Malvern Pudding but adapted the recipe to be dairy-free.
She said: “In one of my autumn cookery courses I did the Malvern Pudding.
“It’s a nice local one but one of those older recipes people sometimes forget.
“I found a few people didn’t know what it was but a lot of the production crew were interested.”
For her entry, Mrs Brookes added pears to her family’s recipe of a classic Bakewell Tart.
She said: “I had a call about four days before they were filming saying they were looking for people to do desserts.
“The Bakewell Tart has been around in my family for years, but I add a twist to it.
“Tom Parker Bowles was really complimentary about the dish.”
Both women are also delighted to feature in the Food Glorious Food recipe book, which accompanies the TV series.
Food Glorious Food can be seen tonight on ITV1 at 8pm.
