The Hive set to reach visitor target
ONE of Worcester’s newest buildings is well on course to attracting one million visitors ahead of its first anniversary.
The Hive has welcomed 600,000 people through its doors in Sawmill Walk, the Butts, in just 224 days after seeing nearly 84,000 drop into the joint initiative between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester during January.
The combined public and university resources has been hugely popular with 645,000 items issued already and 14,000 new people joining since the opening in July last year.
Laura Worsfold, business development manager for the Hive, said: "The Hive has become an inspiring place that everyone in the local community can enjoy.
“We have a fantastic facility, a great range of services and an exciting programme of events all under one roof. It’s wonderful to have seen so many people through the doors in such a relatively short period of time."
Unique computer usage is averaging 650 people per day, with both university students and the public using the facility.
The Worcestershire Hub Customer Service Centre has helped nearly 48,000 people and the county's archives and archaeology service has attracted many new customers.

The building is bound to attract a lot of visitors, given its purpose and its central location.
But we, the public, have no way of knowing if these stats are true or meaningful. We are told there is a target, and I have no doubt it will be met - just the same as exam targets were met under Labour.
Are the stats independently verified? Are they compared to anything meaningful?
Any time I've been there, most of the monitors seemed to be set to Facebook.
No mention here of the problems faced by students (noise and distraction), for example.
