A GRATEFUL group of schoolchildren said thank you to Worcestershire County Council’s gritting teams for their work during the cold weather.

The pupils at Madresfield CE Primary School, near Malvern, received a visit from some crew members in their gritting vehicle after penning letters because the roads to the school were kept clear and safe while the snow and icy conditions persisted.

A special assembly was held to allow the youngsters to ask questions about their work and they also had the opportunity to experience a guided tour of the road clearing equipment before presenting the team with letters and cakes.

Kelly Davies, a teaching assistant in class two, said the project was led by the pupils who had noticed the roads were cleared when some may not have been in previous years.

“They have made a big difference and we can actually still continue.

The children had noticed that we were safe.

“It was a really lovely day and the children were beside themselves with excitement. The guys were fantastic.”
