CUT DOWN: These trees in Victoria Park are now just stumps.

First published in News

A ROW of trees in Victoria Park have been cut down after being allowed to grow much bigger than planned.

The trees were cut down on Wednesday afternoon but one resident said the site now looked “hideous”.

The resident, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s so barren and bare.

“I heard they are planning to cut the rest down, it just looks hideous.

“Where’s all the greenery gone in Malvern Link?”

But a spokeswoman for Malvern Town Council, which manages the park, said the conifers were planted about 40 or 50 years ago initially to form a hedge, but were allowed to develop into far larger trees leaving them in a very poor condition.

The council plans to replace the trees with native fastigiate hornbeams later in the year.

So the town council are saying "WE let them grow too big"

Why ?

The town council has few responsibilities so how has this happened?

why is the council spending money on silly minor projects in Malvern when we are all strapped for cash? They spent loads chopping down a large tree in town when there was no reason too. idiotic waste of money, as usual.

They are replacing evergreen with deciduous that have the potential to grow 15 m wide !! that will take up most of the carpark then plus additional leaf sweeping.Sounds an interesting illogical plan,
Oh well .
They should though have announced what they were doing not just gone ahead ,too late now .
